A filling can protect your tooth
One of the most common dentistry jobs that Palm Beach dentists are required to carry out is called a filling, where holes that have formed in the teeth which are known as cavities are filled back in. The predominant cause of someone needing a filling is through tooth decay, usually a sign of oral neglect but other reasons can include the formation of cracks in the teeth which can arise from consistent tooth grinding or even from nail biting.
Treatment for fillings is a simple procedure that is a one of the first things by learned on a dental course. If needed, a local anaesthetic is commonly used to numb the area so that the dentist can attempt to remove any decay from the tooth using drills, air abrasion tools and sometimes lasers. When the decayed part of your tooth has been removed the cavity is cleaned and shaped to so the dentist can insert the filling. Depending on how bad the decay or crack was in the first place and what kind of filling is going to be inserted can decide how the cavity will need to be shaped.
There are different types of fillings which include Amalgam, Composite Resin, Gold Substances, Ceramics and Glass Ionomer which all have their own advantages, cost and durability. When a decision has been reached on what filling is going to be used, the dentist will carry out the procedure and the cavity will be filled up and stabilized. The length of time a filling procedure will depend on the amount of decay and size of the cavity but the average time is between twenty and thirty minutes.
